SATURDAY 20th AUGUST 2022 - FRIENDLY v ABINGDON BOWLING CLUB

Saturday 20th August was another hot day as we hosted Abingdon BC for the second friendly match of their four match tour. President John Beckford welcomed Captain of the Day Paul Edgington and his 42 members.  The match comprised 6 rinks of 18 ends. The outcome was a convincing win for Blandford by 109 to 79 having won 4 rinks, lost one and drawn one.  John presented pens to our top rinks of Gill Walford, Tony Walford, Liz Males and Barry Males.

Presentations were made by both John and Paul after the match.  The raffle followed in which Paul won the first prize.  The match was thoroughly enjoyed by all the players and we hope that Abingdon will visit again in the near future.

FRIDAY 13th MAY 2022 - FRIENDLY v CALDICOT BOWLS CLUB

On Friday 13
th May we hosted 42 members of Caldicot Bowls Club, Monmouthshire . This was the first of four matches for the tourists as they stopped en route, by coach, to their accommodation in Weymouth so the afternoon started with a lunch for our visitors.

Prior to the bowling a minute’s silence was held in memory of Gerry Griffin, a vey respected and stalwart club member, who recently passed away.

Club President, John Beckford welcomed Captain Alun Parker and his team who were on their first visit to the club. The match was played on a warm sunny day with the scores being close throughout. Finally, we were successful on 4 of the 6 rinks and won the match by 91-83. The afternoon celebrations concluded with presentations of certificates (to encourage small charity donations) to 4 players who had delivered bowls on the wrong bias: these included President and Captain. All players were delighted to be playing friendly matches again following the pandemic restrictions and we hope that Caldicot will return to Blandford in future seasons.
