FINALS 2022

REPORT ON FINALS WEEKEND 2022

************************************************************************************************

CLUB FINALS - 3rd and 4th SEPTEMBER 2022

Eight of the nine finals were held on Saturday. After several dry weeks it started to rain lightly at 9.30am. Fortunately it stopped by 10.00am and matches commenced on time. The day continued as a mixture of cloud and sunshine but fortunately all matches were completed without any delay. This was much to the delight of the organiser Colin Pickering and the 50, or so, spectators.

There was only the Mixed Pairs final on Sunday.  Over 20 spectators were delighted that, yet again, the weather held out.

On both days we had a fly past by the Red Arrows.  It was suggested that the President had booked them but others thought it was a coincidence that it was also the Bournemouth Airshow weekend.

This has not been an easy year, due to ongoing pandemic factors, to ensure all competition matches were played in time for the finals. Nevertheless, it was achieved and there was a very high standard of bowling and some close results. The Mixed Pairs and Men' pairs were both decided on the last end.  The Rose Bowl ladies’ final was won by Terri Lake - Club Ladies' Champion. Connor Joyce, who started in the Junior Section, won the men’s Holroyd Bowl to become the Club's Men's Champion. Club President, John Beckford, presented the trophies.

Thanks go to everyone who made the event such a big success and so enjoyable for all the spectators.  This includes Colin Pickering, John Beckford, the Bar staff, greenkeepers, players, markers and umpire. Elizabeth Pickering, assisted by Judy Walters, provided a very tasty lunch for players and spectators and a good day was had by all.
